Addiction recovery often is a matter of having the right tools to understand what is going on inside of us. In this case, the Sexual Addiction Screening Test can give us a look into the kind of issues that we are having and what impact those struggles have on our lives. Compulsive behavior tends to build secrets around it, so this test can act as a method to pull back the curtain on our behaviors. In this blog, we will discuss taking the test, analyzing your results and what to do with the answers you receive.
Taking The Test:
This test is designed to be taken with a broad view of your entire life. When you are answering, note that some questions are specific to your childhood while others ask for information from any time in your life. If you are unsure what to put for an answer, lean towards the answer that is most accurate to your entire life. Don’t worry, there is no right or wrong answer, only what is. It’s good to know where we stand in relationship to our own bodies. Above all things, answer as honestly as possible. You can take the test now and then read on.Â
Analyzing the Results
The results of the SAST-R test are meant to identify problematic areas, rather than individual problematic behaviors. There is a core number score and 4 sub-sections for you to consider. Since these categories are not meant to be terribly specific, but more like a way to highlight what should be given attention, we encourage you to give consideration to how the test might have been accurate or inaccurate, and note those questions and affirmations. They are a helpful place to start when talking with a coach or counselor.
Analyzing the Results
Many a man has stared at his SAST test in disbelief and wondered what to do next. Similarly, many men have stared at a number they were sure they were going to get and feel doomed. However you feel about your SAST test after taking it, consider some of these options for the next right step.
